Jeanne Gang. Reverse Effect: Renewing Chicago’s Waterways. Chicago: Studio Gang Architects (2012).
The reversal of the Chicago River has been one of the world’s engineering marvels, but now there is a fear that this reengineered river will allow the Asian carp to cross from the Mississippi River system into the Great Lakes. With that danger in mind, this collection of essays calls for nothing less than a 21st-century reimagining of the Chicago River. Visionary ideas are interwoven with case studies, all a product of collaboration between one of Chicago’s most creative architectural firms and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
