Congratulations to designer Caroline DeVillo on being selected as one of the three finalists in our FashioNext competition.
DeVillo began her fashion career at the University of Illinois, where she studied marketing of textiles and apparel. She quickly embraced her passion and enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, where she worked as a stylist for film, TV, and print. DeVillo debuted her first collection at the New York Bridal Mart in 2003 and just three years later she opened her first retail space in the Bucktown neighborhood.

DeVillo describes how Givenchy inspired her design, “The inspiration gown by Givenchy perfectly embodies the design aesthetic I strive for in my couture bridal collection. It is timeless, and can span generations without looking dated. It looks vintage, without looking like a costume, but also incorporates modern design elements. The clean architectural lines, reminiscent of mid-century modern style, look as good today as they did then.

One of the most interesting things about the Givenchy piece is its ability to transform from ceremony to reception with its removable cape. I strive to bring a similar convention to my designs. I decided to create a complimentary piece to transform the entire gown with a skirt that detaches from the waist and features dramatic sunburst pleating.”
