Chic Chicago Closing This Week
July 20th, 2009Filed under: Collections, Exhibitions, Multimedia
Sadly, on July 27th, Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures from the Chicago History Museum will close. I strongly urge any of you who have not yet seen the exhibition to drop what you are doing and race over to the Chicago History Museum to experience it for yourself.
Although the Museum will certainly continue to exhibit pieces from the costume collection, I am certain that there will never be another opportunity to see so many of our hallmarks of fashion history on exhibition at one time (at least in our lifetime). In fact, it is standard practice that an exhibited object remain in storage one year for every month it has been on display. This means that many of the pieces in Chic Chicago will not be eligible for exhibition again for another 15 years, that’s 2024! But don’t worry; with a costume collection of over 50,000 objects, we have plenty more treasures to choose from.
To take advantage of this rare display, we have created a video to capture the essence of the exhibition. In this short “walk-through” we take a detailed look at a few select pieces. I hope you enjoy it.
