Hello! My name is Meghan Smith, and I’m the collection manager for costumes and textiles at the Chicago History Museum. Whether you’re interested in burlesque fans or christening gowns, there’s something for you in our collection. I hope you enjoy this rare opportunity to go behind the scenes with us and catch a glimpse of Chicago’s treasures. Check back often; we’ll be posting to this blog regularly.

What a great video! I’m so excited to see Chic Chicago and Catholic Chicago. The ISM is installing Chocolate this week; you can bet we’re all sampling the goodies from the gift shop!

A wonderful window into the role collections managers play in museums. I am currently an intern at the Museum of the City of New York in the Costume and Textiles Dept. and I am looking to return to Chicago after my graduation. As an aspiring collections manager (soon to graduate from NYU’s graduate program in Museum Studies), I hope to see future job openings for assistants or paid interns to work with you and such an incredible collection.
